I reversed my hair loss. But I had to fight for it.

I was in my late twenties and I started to experience hair loss.

Towards the end of my master’s degree, my hair loss worsened so much that I started to see my scalp. Being used to having so much hair before, I was devastated to experience this drastic change.

I felt decreased confidence and lowered self-esteem.

I start to feel self-conscious and uncomfortable around people and started to hide my bald spots as much as possible. The changes I was experiencing was so fast that I was not ready to accept them.

Then I decided to visit a doctor. The doctor just looked at it and said that I had androgenic alopecia and he gave me two suggestions. 1. Accept the changes and just get rid of my hair totally. 2. Prescribe Finasteride for me to reduce hair loss. I chose the second option just to keep my hair for longer while I think through my options. But I wasn’t totally convinced with the diagnosis.

I decided to do my own research and reverse my hair loss.

I had to convince my doctor to do a complete blood test to find out I had an ongoing H. Pylori infection in my stomach. Then I was treated for it. I also worked hard to resolve the inflammation in my body caused by this bug. Lo and behold, after a few months my hair started to grow back.

When given a professional opinion, especially when it is not based in hard data, listen to your own body first. When your gut tells you something is wrong, don’t ignore it. The key is still you, because you know yourself the best.
